Saturday

walls of books

In all the previous years Christmas presents have been a stress factor, so this year my plan was to find them all before December. I'd been on the lookout for weeks, but without any luck. I hoped that I would at some point stumble upon a store where I could find the perfect presents for anyone.
And that was exactly what I did.

By chance I was invited to come along to an exhibition at DAC - Dansk Arkitektur Center. I accepted, and after a walk through Copenhagen, we arrived at the old brick building standing against the canal. The museum of architecture and design was likable at first glance. But I really became enthusiastic after we were in the other side of the entrance. We had walked right into a bookstore of the very best kind, with walls lined with books on every subject. At least, every subject under the category of architecture and design.

We started to feel like children discovering the contents of their Christmas sock. I flipped the pages of one book to another, and each were more exciting than the last. There were a lot of architecture books with beautiful photographs, but there were also books about graffiti, photography and innovative products. There was a book with drawings on every page that made me bust out laughing. There was a book with ethereal photographs of Earth seen from space. I got the urge to whip out all my money and buy at least a shelf's worth of books. If that isn't the perfect place to buy presents to people you love, I don't know what is.

As for the exhibition, it was about Greenland and not that interesting. I will visit this place again, but solely for the bookstore.
