thoughts on denmark

Recently I've noticed a lot of tourists (recognizable by how they wear their bum bags around their waists) around Copenhagen. I've often wondered why they would bother visiting Denmark.

Yes, I love the freedom that comes with living here, but I don't see Denmark as a place for tourists. The food, shops and attractions are much less impressive and more costly compared to other countries. The weather is also completely unpredictable - you have to be armed with an umbrella, sunglasses and a scarf to be outdoors for a whole day.

And yet dozens of Americans and swarms of Chinese promenade through Strøget. Each year there seems to be more tourists, and not just during the summer. Is it all because of Noma? I have no idea. But as my bewilderment grows, so does the interest for Scandinavia throughout the world. I've heard that Danish novelty shops Tiger and Søstrene Grene are opening in countries like Japan and Holland. I've seen bloggers from other countries publish guides to Copenhagen. I feel a little as if I found out that someone very plain and boring got a boyfriend. Of course it's great news, but it puzzles me.
