These fantasies we have

From (500) Days of Summer to Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has surprised me every time. Recently I was startled by discovering that he had a big part in 10 Things I Hate About You when he was still 18 - but not quite as much as when I found out that he had become a movie director in Don Jon.

The story is about Jon, just a typical unhappy man. His life is full of routine and feels empty despite a loving family and friends, a healthy body and the ability to take home any girl he wants. Jon feels disappointed by reality and chases a fantasy: He believes that finding the perfect girl with the perfect body will fill the hole in his life. Enter Scarlett Johansson, who plays Barbara Sugarman.

After meeting Barbara, Jon thinks that he has finally found the girl of his dreams. Unfortunately Barbara has some dreams of her own: She wants to meet the love of her life and have a romance like in Hollywood movies. But that kind of love is as hard for Barbara to experience in real life as it is for Jon to find the love he wants.

Don Jon should be watched because it has stunning actresses and actors, and it offers a good laugh. It is about men and women's expectations for each other and for love, and what happens when they start to believe that fantasies exist in real life. It delivers a very relevant wake up call for everyone that watches it, as I think everyone shares the same fantasies that Barbara and Jon have. Girls will wait for their prince to come rescue them on their white horse or their Jack to save them from Titanic; Boys want a "10". We all believe them more or less, but at the end of the day it's a fantasy.
